RECYCLING OVER BUSY XMAS PERIOD

Bins at busy recycling sites in Erewash were emptied daily until the new year, but boxes were left on the floor at the two sites on Boxing Day despite some of the bins being empty and able to take waste.
Several tonnes of waste that had been left on the floor alongside bins at two recycling areas in Long Eaton - at West Park and Asda - was cleared by the council on Bank Holiday Tuesday.
The council had appealed to residents to break down boxes and other large recyclable items which would then fit into the blue recycling containers. Boxes were left on the floor at the two sites on Boxing Day despite some of the bins being empty and able to take waste. The council appreciates that residents have more recyclable waste after Christmas Day and is delighted that they are keen to recycle. However, although it was busy, there were empty bins at the sites and much of the waste left on the ground could have been broken down and paper made smaller to fit into the containers.
