COOP ROBBER APPEARS IN COURT

Police have charged a man in connection with an armed robbery which took place in Sawley last summer.Luke Monk (28) was arrested at a house in Spondon, on Wednesday 18th January and was later charged with robbery and assault by beating. A 26-year-old woman at the house was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and released on bail. Mr Monk who appeared before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, January 19th, spoke only to confirm his name and address which he gave as no fixed abode. The case was referred to Derby Crown Court where he is due to appear on Monday February 6th. He was remanded in custody.
At around 10pm on Tuesday, August 23rd, two men entered the Co-op, in Draycott Road, Sawley, holding knives. They threatened staff and took cigarettes and money from the till before leaving on a motorised scooter or motorbike. Another man arrested in connection with the robbery has been released without charge.
