BREASTON ROOF GOES

The roof of a house on Churchill Close came off after high winds blew through Breaston on Monday 15th April. The owner of the house who was asleep in his bedroom at the time suffered a few cuts to his head. His wife Lindsay was downstairs having coffee at the time.

MAN SLASHED IN STAPLEFORD BAR

A Long Eaton man was slashed with a Stanley knife which left him with a lacerated thumb and a gash to the side of his head. Ryan Middleton was injured in a confrontation at Larry's Bar, in Staleford. The incident occurred on Friday, April 12th. Anyone with information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 848 of 12th April 2024, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

NEW HOMES

Work has recently begun on the £10m scheme to provide 46 new, mixed tenure, affordable homes on the former Oaklea Mill lace factory site in Long Eaton. The new development will include 29 homes for affordable rent, and 17 for shared ownership. The scheme is being funded and delivered by emh group, with a grant contribution from Homes England as part of its Strategic Partnership agreement with Homes England. The homes are expected to be completed in winter 2024.

NEW TAPAS BAR

The new Long Eaton tapas bar which will replace the Chandelier on the corner of Derby Road and Lime Grove is set to open on September 8th. The Chandelier closed down in May 2022 after serving Indian food for 30 years. The property has had an entire revamp and will be called Limas Tapas and Social, the entrance will be via Lime Grove. It will now serve tapas such as crispy belly pork, and prawn with XO sauce and cocktails, beers, wines and sangria.

LEISURE CENTRE CLOSES

Chilwell Olympia leisure centre was forced to close due to travellers arriving on its site. The centre was closed throughout Sunday July 2nd. A post confirming the news was issued by Liberty Leisure, its post read: "Due to travellers currently on site at Chilwell Olympia, the centre will be closed all day on Sunday 2nd July. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused."

WANTED MAN REMANDED

A man who was wanted in connection with a number of alleged offences has been arrested, charged and remanded to prison. Damon Cadle, formerly of Sandiacre but who also had connections to Long Eaton, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Leicester was arrested on Tuesday 7th February at an address in Leicester. The 35-year-old appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Thursday 9th February charged with four counts of assault and criminal damage. He was remanded into prison custody pending a trial at Derby Crown Court.
