GAMES WEEK

Residents are encouraged to visit Erewash Museum for a gaming themed extravaganza. From Tuesday 30th August to Saturday 3rd September Erewash Museum is celebrating all things game, from board games to video games and everything in between. Throughout the week tables will be set up for people of all ages to come and play classic board games. While there will be some games laid out by the museum, guests are also welcome to bring their own. There will be free crafting sessions throughout the week in The Hayloft where children can design their own card game. A video game themed trail will run throughout Dalby House where children can test their knowledge by pairing iconic gaming characters with their pixel homes.

From Tuesday 30th August until Thursday 1st September, visitors will be able to hunt virtual reality items in the museum using the free TagTap AR smartphone app.

On Wednesday 31st August traditional seaside arcade games come to Erewash with the Penny Arcade. Amusement machines from fairground history will be in the museum grounds for visitors of all ages to enjoy. From 11am until 3pm, visitors can pay £1 for 10 old pennies to use on the variety of games. These can be paid for using cash only. Councillor Carol Hart, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, says:

“Board games have been great entertainment for decades and have evolved massively over time. I think a week to celebrate the games of this generation and generations past is a fantastic idea and a brilliantly fun way to end the Erewash Museum’s summer events! I encourage all families to visit the museum and spend quality time together enjoying a variety of entertainment from board games to virtual reality.”

Please note: Erewash Museum is closed on Bank Holiday Monday.

Erewash Museum is located a short walk from Ilkeston’s Market Place. Admission is free for both the house and gardens. The volunteer-led tea room offers a variety of treats and drinks. LONG EATON MAN JAILED

A man who stole a bicycle from a driveway, and more than £730 worth of goods from shops in the Long Eaton, Sawley, and Sandiacre area has been jailed. 51-year-old Simon Courtnage pleaded guilty to stealing the bike from Grosvenor Avenue in Sawley on Thursday 21 March, and a series of thefts from four different stores between Wednesday 20th March and Thursday 25th April. He was also found to be in breach of a suspended sentence for an earlier offence and was jailed for a total of 42 weeks. Sergeant Jason Limb, of the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Courtnage has shown to be prolific in his offending, admitted the thefts and has now been jailed for his crimes. We would like to thank the stores for their cooperation and support during the investigation. Shoplifting affects retail staff and customers alike and this type of behaviour won’t be tolerated.”

TOY SHOPPING

Toy shopping is about to get much easier after a major retailer announced it will be launching toy shops within Tesco stores across the county. The Entertainer's recognisable branding will be splashed across the aisles of two local Tesco Extra stores. Customers at Tesco Long Eaton Extra and Ilkeston Extra will be able to browse a wide variety of toys from the Entertainer, including Barbie, Lego, Hot Wheels, Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol. The new toy sections are already open in Ilkeston and Long Eaton. The Entertainer is due to roll out to more than 750 Tesco stores in the UK throughout the year and is set to create more than 1,000 new jobs.
