PHOTO ID FOR MAY ELECTIONS

Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash, is reminding residents who wish to vote in May’s local elections, that they will need to take a form of photo ID to the polling station. The Government has introduced a requirement for residents to show photo ID when voting at a polling station for local elections, Police and Crime Commissioner elections, UK parliamentary by-elections and recall petitions. From October 2023 it will also apply to UK general elections.

Maggie commented: “Voting is a fundamental part of our democracy. I want to remind every resident, that to be eligible to vote, you must take a form of photo ID to the polling station. If you do not already have a form of photo ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate by 5 pm on 25th April 2023, which will allow you to vote in the Erewash Borough Council elections on Thursday 4th May 2023.”

The following types of photo IDs are acceptable:

  Passport, Driving licence (including provisional license), Blue badge, Certain concessionary travel cardsIdentity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme), Biometric Immigration document, Defence identity card, Certain national identity cards
