MAGGIE WELCOMES £5 MILLION FUNDING

Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash welcomes the announcement that patients who use Nottingham University Hospitals are set to benefit from almost £5 million awarded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) to pay for cutting-edge research equipment and technology. More than £4.6 million has been awarded to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to fund new imaging equipment, such as a CT scanner, a mobile echocardiogram to perform scans of the heart and nearby blood vessels, and an imaging machine for skeletal health assessments.

Maggie commented: “I welcome the announcement that almost £5 million in funding has been awarded to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The additional funding will mean that the Trust can now purchase cutting-edge equipment, like mobile CT scanners, imaging devices and ultrasound equipment to help their ground-breaking work in the prevention, treatment and management of disease. This announcement is on top of the recent news that the Nottingham University Hospitals will receive an investment of £13.2 million from the Government to support elective care. I have no doubt that this funding will drive research and innovation to enable scientific discoveriesand new technologies to improve the prevention, management and treatment of serious and long term conditions. This will certainly help improve patient experiences and once again shows that the Conservatives are the party of the NHS."

Additionally, a further £300,000.00 has also been awarded to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to fund equipment that will support collaborative research, in partnership with Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, into muscle and movement disorders in children. The new equipment is backed by £96 million of NIHR funding being invested in 93 NHS organisations across England.
