Maggie welcomes a new Community Diagnostic Centre in
Nottingham
Maggie
Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash, has welcomed the news that Nottingham
will benefit from a new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). It is hoped that the
CDC will open in December 2023. Nottingham City CDC will be based at Lister
Gate, Nottingham (NG1 7DD) and will increase diagnostic capacity
as well as reduce waiting times. Once operational, it will deliver up to 75,000
checks, tests and scans a year, tailored to meet the needs of patients. The
facility will specialise in CT, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray, cardiology, respiratory
and phlebotomy tests and scans. This announcement is on top of
the news that Ilkeston Community Hospital’s CDC will be upgraded and will
receive a new open MRI scanner, which will be the first of its kind in
Derbyshire. Maggie
commented: “I am delighted that a new CDC is due
to open in Nottingham later this year. This will enable the people of
Nottingham and surrounding communities, such as Erewash, the chance to access
life saving tests, checks and scans. I have continually led the calls for
the Government to locate CDCs away from hospitals and into everyday settings
such as shopping centres and football stadiums – as was done so successfully
with the Covid vaccine rollout. I am pleased that the Department of Health
and Social Care has listened to my demands and has placed the Nottingham CDC in
the heart of the community at Lister Gate. There is no doubt that this will
take pressures off local NHS services. This
announcement is on top of the news that Ilkeston Community Hospital’s CDC will
be expanded and will receive Derbyshire’s first open MRI scanner. Works are
also taking place to upgrade the x-ray department and to create purpose-built
rooms for ultrasound and physiological measurements. There is no doubt that
this one-stop-shop will benefit Erewash residents. Together these CDCs
will make it easier for Erewash patients to receive diagnostic tests closer to
home. I look forward to visiting both CDCs once they are fully operational.”
The Nottingham City CDC is one of 13 newly announced sites opening across
the country before the end of the year, with the Government investing £2.3
billion to deliver up to 160 CDCs across England by 2025. The CDC at Ilkeston
Hospital is expected to be fully operational by January 2024.
