Paid the top four placed anglers.
In spite of the awful weather report, once again there was a good turn-out, and thankfully, once again, the weather report was incorrect, as instead of thunderstorms and heavy rain it was mainly dry (odd light shower), and although mainly overcast in the brisk West wind (that veered NW later) there was the odd sunny period and it remained warm.
Once again there were anglers spread all around the lake, and although the A bank generally fished the best, two of the prizewinners came from the B side of the lake.
Daz Shaw drew the in-form peg A11 and made no mistake in accumulating an excellent weight of 194-10 of carp to win the match. Daz caught the bulk of his fish on the method feeder although caught some on the pellet waggler. He said he could see fish in his margins in the latter stages but dare not switch from what he was doing as there were no guarantees the
margins would produce.
John Adamson drew flier A21, and very nearly made a mess of
it, constantly
tangling in the big bramble (in front and to his right) and
catching the reeds
on the island. However, he eventually got his method feeder
working
effectively and after a mad final two hours managed to push
his weight to
183-06 to fill the second spot.
Hughie Blair on B21 was third with an excellent 116-04,
which included
over 67 lbs of bream and skimmers taken on pole and paste at
11m, and
carp taken short on the same bait, with Tom Batterbee (fishing
his first Nisa
Open) coming fourth with 101-07 from peg B15.
Many thanks to Wayne Greenfield (assisted by brother Shaun)
for their
scales work which enabled an efficient weigh-in. The photos
are of the top
two with part of their catches.
Just a note of interest: 23 different pegs on the lake have
had money won
from them so far (12 on the B and 11 on the banks). This demonstrated
that all areas can produce fish and it is difficult to predict where weight may
come from. Also, 96 different anglers have fished the matches since the
return to Makins Fishery this year.
There will be no NISA Opens on Wednesdays for the next two
weeks as the
lake has been booked for other events, and we return on
Wednesday 23rd
August, hopefully then on every Wednesday for the rest of
the year.
NB. Nisa Opens are held every Wednesday on Lake Two at
Makins Fishery
(see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open
matches" to book a place).
