Report: From the comfort angle, holding the match on Lake Four instead of Lake Two proved a mistake, as Lake Four, being higher,  is susceptible to strong winds that buffeted the competitors throughout especially, the second half of the match, when the addition of rain showers added to the misery of someHowever, in spite of the weather the lake fished reasonably well with catches made from all areas. Andy Findlay returned to the top spot with a superb weight on the day of 128 lbs.  Fishing on peg 9, Andy, expecting the facing wind to increase throughout the match, opted to fish close in (within 5m), and caught carp steadily all day on the method feeder, ending with 128-00 for a clear win.  On the opposite bank in the relative shelter, Gaz Wood was able to fish pole all day from peg 19, and using pellet bait ended with 55-07 to take second place, including 37-09 of silverfish (mainly bream) in his catch.

Joe Carrass, also on the more sheltered side on peg 23, had planned to fish bomb and pelletHowever, this was scuppered by the swarm of hungry gulls who devoured any loose-fed pellets, both in the air and as they hit the water, within seconds. Joe thus opted to fish the method feeder and ended with 8 carp for 53-06 for third place.

Darren Milne on peg 8 also planned to fish bomb and pellet and also battled greedy gulls scoffing at his loose feedIn the early stages of the match, he caught F1s and stockies until a combination of increasing wind and gulls forced him into a rethink and a switch to the method feeder for the remainder of the matchHe only managed to add a few carp and ended in fourth place (one out of the money) with his 45-10.

The photos show the winner, (many thanks to Andy and Joe photo), and many thanks again to Phil Hunt for running the match.

Next week the match will return to Lake Two.

NB.  Nisa Opens are held every Wednesday on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
