June has arrived, and we had hoped for some nice warm weather. Instead, there was a cold NW wind sweeping across the lake, which, coupled with the mainly cloudy skies meant that top coats were required for much of the day. On the positive side, we only had the occasional light rain shower – so it could have been worse. The recent changes in air pressure and temperature have taken their toll on sport, and once again for many competitors it was a struggle to string bites together, and although the top four weights were decent, below that there was not a great deal to report. With another excellent attendance, the payout was to the overall winner, and then (by default) to the top two weights on either side of the lake (A and B). Only four anglers on each bank bothered to weigh in, with the higher weights coming from the A bank which included the top three places. John Adamson on A12 fished his usual 28g Nisa Porky method feeder towards the island and caught mainly carp (from 3 to 9 lbs) plus a few bream for a winning total of 110-10. In contrast, Jim Innes (A15) caught most of his fish (all big carp) on the pellet waggler for overall second with 94-04 to win the A bank pool. The result may have been reversed if it had not been for lost fish (including a big ghosty). Third place (and taking second in the A bank pool) on peg A10 (again!) was Andy Findlay. Fishing his usual small method feeder, Andy managed a weight of 89-09 of mainly small carp (3-5 lb fish). Fourth place and winning the B bank from peg B19 was Darren Milne with 84-08. Having hooked (landed and returned) a carp before the match when clipping up his pellet waggler (the fish took the band), Daz expected the waggler to do the business. However, it was not to be and it was only when he switched to bomb and pellet (changing areas a couple of times to keep fish interested) he caught carp steadily (boosting his holiday fund again). Young “L J” Stroud was fifth (second on the B bank) with a method feeder caught 38-13 from peg B21, with Ricky Arms (B13) in sixth with 35-06, Phil Hunt (A14) in seventh with a bomb caught 3 fish 23-14, and Lee Stroud in eighth from B17 with 23-04 which included a nice koi.
Many thanks to all who assisted with the weigh-in. We are again on Lake Two on Wednesday 12th June – book in to secure a place.
NB. Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
