HOME IS WHERE THE ART IS

 

Proud Erewash residents are being urged to use their artistry to trumpet the borough by designing postcards. The local museum wants to put the results on display to mark the golden anniversary of Erewash Borough Council – which was created in 1974 by the merger of three separate authorities. People are invited to submit “a favourite place, a landmark, building or anywhere that gets you inspired to create a piece of art”. The My Erewash Postcard Exhibition will run from 18th July to 31st August. Entries must be A6/postcard size (14.5 x 10.5cm). Jo Brown, who is Culture Development Officer at the Erewash Museum, stressed: “Anyone can have a go.” The project comes hot on the heels of the council launching a new Visit Erewash website to encourage tourism in the borough. It showcases attractions such as the mighty Bennerley Viaduct near Ilkeston and the ancient Hermit’s Cave at Dale Abbey. They will be displayed anonymously but people wanting to collect them at the end of the exhibition are asked to write their names on the back.
