APPEAL FOLLOWING SERIOUS ASSAULT

The incident took place at 5.20pm on Thursday evening June 4th  on the canal path off Bennett Street. The victim, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to the Queens Medical Centre by ambulance with serious injuries after allegedly being punched. The teenager, who is from Sawley, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. A 15-year-old boy from Long Eaton was arrested on Friday night June 5th on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody. Currently the bridge at the junction of Willoughby Avenue and Bennett Street is closed, along with a section of the canal path. Members of the public will be unable to use the path and should use an alternative route. Detective Inspector Tony Owen, who is leading the investigation, said: 

“Residents in the area are likely to see an increased police presence over the coming days as enquiries continue. Incidents such as this are thankfully rare but that does not make the shock for community any less. If you are concerned about this incident, or other issues in your area, then please speak to an officer you see out on patrol or contact us through the various means listed below. I would also ask that anyone with any information come forward and help officers with the investigation into the incident.”

ARREST MADE AFTER ALLEGATIONS OF CHARITY FRAUD

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested after a number of allegations of fraud. Over the past days the force has received a number of reports of fraud in relation to a charity raffle.

POLICE APPEAL AFTER CANAL BANK ASSAULT

Police are appealing for information following a serious assault in Long Eaton. The incident took place at 5.20pm on Thursday evening June 4th on the canal path off Bennett Street and the victim of the incident was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries. Residents will see an increased police presence as enquiries continue and a number of roads are closed in the area. LONG EATON PENSIONER LEAVES HOSPITAL

  A Long Eaton pensioner has been discharged from hospital after spending 46 days in intensive care with coronavirus. Yvonne Thompson, 70, was taken to hospital on April 5th after self-isolating with Covid-19 symptoms. Her condition deteriorated and she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit.  When her respiratory function got worse she was placed on a ventilator. Once her condition improved she was moved to a ward to continue her recovery. Yvonne spent a total of 56 days in hospital.

WITNESS APPEAL AFTER LONG EATON BURGLARY

Police are appealing for witnesses after a burglary at a house in Long Eaton on Wednesday evening (3rd June). The incident happened sometime between 8.30pm and 9.15pm at an address in Rydal Avenue. It is understood that the burglar entered the house while the owner was upstairs inside. The back door to the property had been forced open. A wallet was stolen during the incident which contained a bank card and a quantity of cash.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and noticed anything suspicious, or anyone who may have video footage that could assist police with their enquiries – be that dash cam footage or private CCTV footage – is asked to contact them. Any video footage should be downloaded to a separate, secure device ready for officers to view.
