LANCASTER FLY PAST

The Lancaster Bomber from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is to fly over Erewash at around 2.30pm on July 2nd. Terry Hall, the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer for the Derbyshire Submariners, had requested the plane fly over the annual Stanley Village Gala in memory of the crew of W5795 - a Wellington Bomber which crashed locally, killing all of its crew on 12th July 1942.

CAMPAIGN TO SAVE TICKET OFFICE

Cllr Alan Chewings, Chair of Sawley Parish Council is backing a campaign which has been launched to stop the closure of Long Eaton train station ticket office. Campaigners say passengers will be put at risk with no staff on hand to deal with emergencies and that passengers with mobility issues would find it difficult to access the platforms if the lifts were not operating. Cllr Chewings said: “We were promised a better rail service locally, now we are seeing services cut and there is a threat to close our ticket office.”

The Department for Transport say that the number of passengers using ticket offices over the last nine years has dropped from 34% to 12% which is only one ticket in eight. East Midlands Railway say there are no plans to close the ticket office at Long Eaton.
