Report:

In spite of the continuing cold East wind, it was a beautiful clear and sunny day and although carp could be seen swimming all around the lake they were loath to feed in quantity.

Shane Sayer on peg A11 caught all carp on the method feeder fished to the island, and was a clear winner with 149-06, with Chris Harrison (A21) taking second place with a 30 carp catch weighing 116-04, again with most fish taken near the island.

Three weights in the "eighties" followed, Mick Glover (peg A6) taking third place with 89-01, again with an all-carp catch but taken on bomb and pellet, with Simon Skelton (B11) in fourth with 87-03  which included 46-14 of bream, taken on pole fished meat over ground bait, with John Adamson (B14) in fifth spot (and just out the money) with 81-04.  John included 24-01 of bream, mostly taken on pole and pellet, the rest carp all on the method feeder to the island.  Rob Drawber (B19) was sixth with a method feeder caught 72-01.

Many thanks to Simon for his efficient scales duties.  The photos show the top 3 placed anglers with part of their catches.

NB.  Nisa Opens are held every Wednesday on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).

NEW NATURE RESERVE

Residents are being asked for their views on a proposed new local nature reserve at West End Drive in Ilkeston. An online consultation is now open and people are encouraged to have their say on the proposals, including possible names for the nature reserve. Residents can take part in the survey, which is open until Sunday 25 June, at erewash.gov.uk/haveyoursay  Questions include whether people currently visit the site and whether they support the proposed nature reserve. Councillor Joel Bryan, Lead Member for Environment at Erewash Borough Council, says: “The proposed new nature reserve would bring many benefits for residents of Erewash, the wider community and visitors to the area. Being adjacent to Straw's Bridge Local Nature Reserve, Manor Floods and Pewit Car, the site will provide a nature corridor, linking existing green spaces in the borough, in line with the council’s strategy.”

The nature reserve is one of 11 projects set to benefit from the council’s successful £2.8m bid to the Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. If you would like to know more about the proposal and consultation, please contact jaimey.lim@erewash.gov.uk  or visit erewash.gov.uk/pewit.

MAGGIE THROUP

Maggie urges colleges across Erewash to bid for new funding from the Government to boost skills training

Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash is encouraging colleges and further education providers across Erewash to bid for extra investment from the Government by Tuesday 20th June 2023 to boost local skills training. Local communities across the country are set to benefit from a share of £165 million to improve skills training in their area and help get more people into jobs closer to home. The new funding from the Government’s Local Skills Improvement Fund will be used to renovate facilities with up-to-date equipment, help to upskill teachers, and deliver new courses in key subjects. Maggie commented: “Investing in education and skills will unlock future growth, boost productivity, and help build the skilled workforce of the future in Erewash. That is why I welcome the extra £165 million investment in skills training from the Government and encourage colleges and further education providers across Erewash to apply for their share to help get more people into jobs closer to home. This new funding will deliver the skills our local employers need, while levelling up skills training across the country and helping to grow our economy.”

New courses that will receive extra funding include those providing training in green construction, carbon capture, and cyber security, and those that meet the needs of local employers. Successful applicants will receive funding to invest in initiatives responding to the priorities in each area’s Local Skills Improvement Plan, created by employer bodies in every region to make sure post-16 technical training responds to local needs. The extra investment will provide a boost to local economies, as businesses will have access to the skills they need, delivering on the Prime Minister’s priority to grow the economy, as the Government works to deliver all five of its priorities: halve inflation, grow the economy, reduce debt, cut waiting lists and stop the boats. More information about how to apply for funding from the Local Skills Improvement Fund can be found here - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/applying-for-funding-from-the-local-skills-improvement-fund
